Science Shop Success for Kathy

Science Shop success
Kathy Hargy with project supervisor Dr Adrian Moore

Coleraine graduate Kathy Hargy had an extra reason to celebrate at the recent graduation ceremonies. As well as obtaining a 2:1 in Media Studies with Computing, she was also awarded a certificate in recognition of a successful Science Shop project with the Upperlands Community Development Association.

The Science Shop scheme offers all University of Ulster students an opportunity to undertake a project with a community or voluntary group across Northern Ireland. Community groups in need of help put forward projects ideas that are then offered to all University of Ulster students.

In Kathy's case, the Upperlands Community Development Association requested assistance in establishing an online presence which showcases the townland and its history, as well as enabling the Association to manage their bookable community resources.

Kathy undertook this project as part of the computing element of her final year and delivered a modern, dynamic website that is scheduled to go live over the summer.
