Barry Herbert pectured at the competition in Tipperary
Coleraine Computing students Barry Herbert, Michael McCrystal, and Graham Taylor travelled to Tiperray Institute with lecturer Darryl Charles to compete in the XNA Ireland Space Invaders competition. The event was the centrepiece of the Microsoft sponsored XNA Ireland Challenge 2008, for which 2nd and 3rd level students designed their own version of the classic game for Xbox 360 consoles.

After only 4 weeks of intense work on a 3D version of Space Invaders, the team just missed out on a top three finish after some very stiff competition. Speaking about his team's submission, Barry said, "We decided to put a 3-d perspective to the game, to make it more challenging and to provide a different gaming experience for the player."

Irish TV channel TV3 covered the event, and Barry was interviewed about his team's game. You can see the TV3 news item here.
