Reading for Study

• First of all find a place where you are comfortable and set yourself realistic targets (I will read 1 chapter or 10 pages NOT the whole book in 1 hour). Monitor your progress and review your targets as you read, reset them as you progress. Use a dictionary or glossary to look up words you don’t understand or are unsure of.

• Reading enables you to develop an understanding of the subject, add new concepts, understand explanations. It enables you to build mental models and follow techniques employed. Reading helps you incorporate new information along with that which you already have.

READING helps you THINK about IDEAS and REORDER them.

• You do not need to remember everything you read. As you read, write things down. It is what you understand that is important. Note the general points of the information, the facts which the text indicates are important. You want to be able to think using the concepts and ideas of the text.

• Textbooks can be purchased from www.amazon.co.uk.
